Rize works by detecting the app name or website of the in-focus window. When Rize is paused, Rize will not track your activity. If you quit the Rize app, your activity will not be recording. To learn about categorize tracked apps and websites as well as how to stop Rize from tracking specific apps or websites, check out the Categorization guide.
If the Rize app is open, the Rize icon will appear in the top bar menu tray of macOS and the bottom bar menu tray on Windows. On macOS, there will be text next to the Rize icon to show the current tracking state of the app.
<aside> 💡 If you do not see the Rize icon in menu tray then Rize is not tracking. If you quit the Rize app, Rize will not track.

Many users prefer to run Rize on a set schedule rather than have the app track 24/7. This is helpful if you use the same computer for work and personal activities. You can use Tracking Hours to set this schedule by heading to Settings > General > Tracking Hours.
